Hon. Andrew R. Yatilman has been sworn in as Senator-at-Large for the State of Yap in the 24th Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia following his formal seating on January 13, 2026.

PALIKIR, Pohnpei. The Office of the President issued a statement congratulating Andrew R. Yatilman on his assumption of office, recognizing him as one of the nation’s longest-serving Cabinet members whose years of public service have contributed significantly to national governance.

“The Office of the President acknowledges Senator Yatilman’s long record of service to the nation and looks forward to working collaboratively with him in advancing national priorities and serving the people of the Federated States of Micronesia,” the statement said.

Senator Yatilman’s seating marks a transition from senior executive leadership into the legislative branch, where he is expected to play an active role in national policy deliberations and to represent the interests of Yap State at the national level.

Prior to his election to Congress, Senator Yatilman served for many years in senior national government roles, most notably as Secretary of the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Emergency Management, where he was responsible for national policy and implementation related to environmental protection, climate change adaptation, disaster risk management, and emergency response. In that capacity, he served as a member of the President’s Cabinet and represented the Federated States of Micronesia in regional and international forums on climate and environmental issues. His public service career has been closely associated with strengthening national resilience, environmental governance, and emergency preparedness.

The Office of the President concluded by wishing Senator Yatilman success as he begins his term in Congress, underscoring the importance of continued cooperation between the executive and legislative branches in addressing the country’s priorities.
